Empowering South Carolina’s Foster Families: New Partnership with TREC and SC DSS Brings Free Trauma-Resilient Training to Caregivers

October 30, 2024

An exciting collaboration has formed with South Carolina’s Department of Social Services (SC DSS) and the Trauma Resilient Educational Communities (TREC) Model.

Our team leadership Craig Beswick and Dana Brown were introduced to Anna Skipper, Training Director, Foster, Adoptive Parent, and Kinship Caregiver with South Carolina’s Department of Social Services.

Robyn Hussa Farrell, CEO of Resiliency Technologies, introduced TREC to SC DSS after providing evidence-based parent mental health literacy and resiliency training for five years, “We felt TREC’s model could be a wonderful addition to the SC DSS training program, as it is one of the most comprehensive we have seen in the field thus far.

Anna - the statewide Training Director for all South Carolina foster parents and guardians in South Carolina - highlighted the fact that their parents are mandated to have completed fifteen-hours annually of professional development . With the recent launch of TREC’s no-cost, Trauma-Resilient Parent Certification, everyone met to dialogue about collaborative opportunities where parents can benefit from tested methodology that supports their ability to provide care to vulnerable youth.

Anna shared her lens and enthusiasm about adding the Trauma-Resilient Parent Certification into the SC DSS offering, “I am excited about the partnership and being able to offer this training to the foster, adoptive, and kinship caregivers in SC. The training’s engaging activities assist caregivers with working through scenarios to practice using what they have learned during the session.

The certification is now housed in South Carolina’s DSS learning management system and available for any foster parent or guardian in South Carolina to access the course and receive their certification.

Our entire TREC team is thrilled about this evolution and have shared our profound gratitude to Anna, SC DSS, and Resiliency Technologies for assisting us in bringing this to fruition.

Excitedly, TREC has already certified 11 parents/guardians in South Carolina and it has only been 12 days!
